Safety is Our Concern!
While most of us are still asleep your Transportation Department is awake and getting ready to transport our most precious cargo.......Your children!
From 6:00am when the first buses roll out of the yard, to 7:00pm, your Transportation Department transports up to 3500 students safely twice a day. Over the 58 square miles of our District and to schools outside of our District for our special needs students and our private/parochial school students, as well as the many after school programs and athletic teams. Your Transportation Department uses 95 buses, 100 staff to ensure the safety of your children. This is no small task in an area as diverse as ours which has the traffic, construction and ever changing weather conditions.
Requests for Transportation to a Non-Public School
If you are sending your child to a non-public school in September 2023 and she/he will need school bus service, NYS Education Law mandates that a written request be filed each year. The Non-Public School Transportation Form must be completed and returned to the Transportation Office by mail (postmarked by April 1, 2023), by email, or by fax (914-763-5846) no later than April 1, 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. My bus is late, what should I do?
A. There are many reasons why your bus is running later than usual. Weather, traffic or mechanical problems can cause your bus to be late. If your bus is running more than 15 minutes later than it should, contact the transportation office at 914-763-7231 and we will advise you on the status of your bus.
Q. What should I do if my child misses the bus?
A. If your child misses the bus because he/she was not ready at the bus stop, it is your responsibility to take them to school. Do not attempt to catch up with the bus and have your child run up to the bus. This is unsafe and puts your child and all the other children on the bus in danger. If the reason for your child missing the bus is our fault we will do what we can to correct the problem.
Q. Why is there a different driver/bus for my child today?
A. The reason for a different driver is that the regular bus driver is not working that day and a substitute driver was sent. If there is a different bus, it is because the regular bus is out of service that day.
Q. What is the transportation policy regarding children getting off the bus without a parent present?
A. Students in grades 1 through 12 will be let off the bus without a parent or guardian at the stop. Kindergarten students will not be let off the bus unless their parent or guardian is at the stop. Let your driver know if there will be another person, unknown to the driver, who is going to pick up your child. If there is no one to receive your child, the child will remain on the bus. We will try to reach you by phone, if not we will try to make a second attempt to drop off your child at the end of the run. If there is still no one there to receive your child he/she will be brought back to school for their safety, and you will be responsible for picking up your child.
Q. Who is allowed to ride the school bus?
A. Only students that are assigned to that bus or given bus passes by the school may ride on the bus. Parents, guardians and others are not allowed to ride the bus. Students from other districts are not allowed to ride with our students.
Q. Do I have to stop for buses with red lights flashing?
A. Passing buses with lights are a violation of the law. The law states that you must come to a complete stop when approaching a stopped school bus. Regardless if the bus is on school grounds or stopped on a divided highway. The fines for passing a stopped school is a minimum $250 fine to a maximum of $500 or imprisonment for not more than 30 days or both and 5 (five) points on your license.
