Update from Superintendent Selesnick regarding BOE trustee vacancy

June 17, 2023

Dear KLSD Community,

Once our current BOE became aware that Board composition would be an agenda item at its June 15 meeting, the two trustees-elect were invited to be present at the public meeting so they could listen to the BOE’s deliberation and share any thoughts during the public comment portion of the meeting, should they choose.

Further, the two trustees-elect were invited to join the current BOE in its executive session on June 15 for a confidential conversation of this same topic.

As would be the case for any community member invited into an executive session, the trustees-elect signed confidentiality forms. It is prescribed in law that discussions taking place in any BOE’s executive session are to be kept strictly confidential.

As noted in the District’s initial communication on this matter, the Board of Education will not vote on a resolution to appoint a new trustee before its reorganization meeting on July 6, 2023 when the new BOE is seated. It was and remains important to our current BOE that the process to fill the vacant seat be as transparent and inclusive as possible. I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent
