Entering Spring Break 2023

Dear KLSD Community,

The tragedy of this week’s school shooting in Nashville remains unshakably in our minds and hearts. My thoughts continue to be with the families and community devastated by this most recent loss.

As we close our schools today for a week’s break, it feels so important to celebrate all that is positive within our community. Middle and high school students recently completed joyful productions of “Honk” and “9 to 5”. High school artists have exhibited their work in the annual Rite of Spring art show. Two of those artists spoke eloquently about their work at our most recent Board of Education meeting. A wonderful month of PARP reading ends today in our elementary schools, where our principals also recently hosted warm welcomes for next year’s kindergarten families. Yesterday was opening day on our baseball diamond, and all spring sports are under way. Four of our JJHS students won awards at the recent Westchester Science and Engineering Fair. And we send best wishes to our robotics team traveling to Texas for an international competition in April. Thank you to our students, their teachers and administrators for filling us with such pride and joy.

On April 19, we will host our next Learning Café, this time on the topic of Sustainability. Please read more here and consider registering to join us for what will be an interesting evening.

For now, I wish all our families and all my colleagues a peaceful, restful, and rejuvenating spring break.

Take care,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
