Capital Improvement Vote Results and More

Dear KLSD Community,

At last night’s meeting, our Board of Education accepted the official results of Tuesday’s vote on our Capital Improvement Project. The final tally is 893 yes votes and 595 no. Thank you to our community for supporting the project. We are enormously grateful and excited for the future learning opportunities these new facilities will create for our students. The project now moves immediately forward into the phase that includes further design and refinement and then submission of final plans to the New York State Education Department for their approval. We anticipate this phase will take approximately one year. Once approvals are received, construction is projected to last approximately two years. If all goes smoothly, all aspects of the project will be complete by the beginning of the 2025-26 school year.

I am grateful to every community member who came out to vote. It is important for our students to see and to learn about the direct impact of the democratic process. As with all votes, we are mindful that the outcome is not unanimous and, moving forward, we will continue working to include all voices in our community.

In other news, I remind everyone of next Wednesday evening’s Learning Café on the topic of Belonging in our Schools. If you plan to participate in our café, please click on this link and register before the end of today.

And finally, the Town of Bedford is hosting a Health and Wellness Fest tomorrow at Fox Lane High School, from 11:00 – 4:00, co-sponsored by the Bedford-Lewisboro-Pound Ridge Drug Abuse Prevention Council and Northern Westchester Hospital, among others. The day features health and wellness related workshops tailored to adults and children in all different age groups. You can find more information here.

Wishing everyone a beautiful, fall weekend.

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
