Moving Up 2022

"These are the times we will always remember"

Joy was threaded into every aspect of Meadow Pond Elementary's fifth grade Moving Up Ceremony, held at John Jay High School's theater on June 23.

From the pride and confidence on students' faces as they began Meadow Pond Elementary's school song ... "These are the times we will always remember" ... to the video presentation that brought back fun memories of growth and accomplishments over the last five years,  parents, staff and students were all smiles.

Principal Ashlyn Field summed it up in her comments to the students. "The most important thing to us is that you are kind and find joy throughout your life."

After the Presentation of Certificates, during which each student walked across the stage for a final elbow bump with Principal Field and Assistant Principal Dawn Pomeroy, everyone enjoyed a reception in the high school cafeteria complete with cupcakes, swag, and a collection of self-portraits from each year of Meadow Pond.

Excerpt of Principal Ashlyn Field's comments

To all of you almost 6th graders- promise us something. Make it your life goal to find what makes you happy. Truly happy. And, yes, hanging out with friends is fun but I am talking about finding your passion that will drive you through life and possibly your career.

Did Shrek make you fall in love with acting? Then check out John Jay Theater next year. Did the science fair make you fall in love with robotics and being the next speed cuber? Then join Mr. Zoeller’s robotics club. Did you love being an ambassador and helping others? Maybe you will become the next activist or politician. All the adults in this room want you to live your true self and find joy. Because the secret is ... watching you all find joy, brings us adults joy.

So go out and find your joy. And then don’t forget to come back and share it with all of us. We will miss you.
