Hero Day
One of the Themes of November's Community Meeting
“Who’s your hero?” asked Principal Ashlyn Field, who was dressed in a superhero cape, as she welcomed students. It was Hero Day at Meadow Pond Elementary and she was elbow bumping with firefighters, book characters, sports stars, a lawyer and a butterfly as well as more personal heroes.
“My mom. She’s a doctor,” said one student who was dressed in a lab coat.
“My family,” said another. “I’m wearing my mom’s shirt, my dad’s tie and my brother’s coat.”
“My uncle,” said a student dressed in soldier’s camouflage.
Hero Day was one of the themes of the November’s Community Meeting, an all-school gathering led by the school’s Ambassadors.

Wrap Up from Recycling Matters
Filling students with school spirit
The fifth-grade leaders showed off their acting skills as they performed a skit based on “When Grandma Gives You a Lemon Tree,” the all-school read by Jamie L. B. Deenihan.
Members of the Recycling Matters Club, led by Dr. Lara Monasch, took the mic to share updates on how much left-over Halloween candy was collected for soldiers, and more.
The ambassadors also showed everyone the greenery collected on Meadow Pond’s campus by the school’s Garden Club, led teachers Keli Mazzoni and Jackie Kovatch. Volunteers had transformed the yew, pine and holly branches into festive cafeteria table centerpieces.
After pulling names from the moolah buckets and a few crisp cheers, the students—full of school spirit—returned to class.
