Staff Development Day - Friday March 13, 2020

March 12, 2020

Dear KLSD Families,

In light of the rapidly evolving situation regarding the coronavirus, our schools will be closed to students tomorrow so that we can hold a staff development day.

In addition, our schools will be closed tomorrow and throughout the weekend to all outside groups so that our custodial staff can thoroughly clean and disinfect all areas. This means that all school-related activities scheduled tomorrow through Sunday are cancelled. It also means that any non-school activities scheduled to take place in our buildings are cancelled.

I know this news will create disappointment and inconvenience for some. I wish it were not necessary. But in light of the developing news in the world around us, I believe this is a most appropriate step in consideration of the health and safety of our students, staff, and community. At the same time, I can again reassure you that I remain unaware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in our school community.

Our staff will spend tomorrow continuing to prepare for distance learning, should we have that need in the coming days or weeks. Students should not, however, expect to hear from their teachers tomorrow or over the weekend.

Be assured that I will provide another update as soon as I am able regarding plans for Monday and the days and weeks to follow.

To those families for whom we typically provide transportation to private schools on a staff development day, please know that we will provide that transportation tomorrow (assuming the school your children attend is open).

In these anxiety-provoking times, please know how much I appreciate your thoughtful partnership and the dedication of my colleagues. The health, wellbeing, and education of your children will always be our highest priority.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
