"I am Moana of Motunui. You will board my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti." Moana’s beautiful story of courage, resilience and the importance of embracing your heritage was brought to life by Increase Miller Elementary’s fifth graders!
The students have been singing, dancing and staging with music teacher and director April Higgins since early 2025 during two music classes a week, as well as early morning rehearsals. The show includes all students in the grade—some with different roles during the second show, and a special appearance of Eddie the Eagle!
“I couldn’t be prouder of my incredible students for their outstanding performance in Moana Jr!” said Higgins. “Their talent, dedication and hard work truly brings the story to life in the most magical way. Each student gave their all—on stage, behind the scenes, and in every rehearsal—and their passion shines through in every moment of the show.”
Higgins gives a huge thank-you to the amazing parents who went above and beyond helping with costumes, sets, and so much more. “Your creativity and support made a world of difference,” she said.
“Directing this production has been an absolute joy—it’s a privilege to work with such a gifted, enthusiastic group. Watching them grow and shine is the best part of what I do!"
