Welcome, Shantel Brooks!

 Shantel Brooks, AP of JJMS.Shantel Brooks has joined John Jay Middle School’s leadership team as Assistant Principal. She will be working alongside Rich Leprine, Principal, and Assistant Principal Monica Bermiss.

Ms. Brooks looks forward to strengthening the citizenship, critical thinking and social-emotional development of all scholars. She has a multitude of experience in all levels of education and continues to develop her own pedagogical practice daily.  

Last year, Ms. Brooks was an assistant principal at the California Avenue School in Uniondale, New York. Prior to that, she was a co-founder and director of instruction and technology at the Madiba Prep Middle School in Brooklyn. Previously, she served as a math enrichment teacher and instructional coach in the White Plains schools.

Ms. Brooks earned her Master of Science in teaching literacy from Mercy College, her Master of Education in educational leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and she is currently enrolled in the doctoral program at St. John’s University.

When not at work, you'll find Ms. Brooks doing something active, or reading at a nearby café or beach.  She is a fitness enthusiast who loves to travel and spend time with family.
