The Fibonacci Art Project
Sixth-grade students learned about the Fibonacci math sequence, where a number equals the sum of the two numbers prior to it in the sequence. Students discovered that this sequence appears in nature.
The Fibonacci sequence is named after Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci.
Learning about Fibonacci and applying his mathematics to art is a fabulous way to encourage STEAM learning--science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics.
6th Grade Math & Art
Students measured circles, using a compass, following the Fibonacci sequence for the diameter of their circles in inches:
1 1 2 3 5
Once the circles were created, they arranged them into their own, unique compositions and had the option to add simple markings to enhance their circles.
