TikTok Notice and SRO

December 16, 2021

Dear KLSD Community,

KLSD and all school districts in Westchester are aware of a TIK TOK post that alleges a threat against schools nationwide on December 17. The alleged threat is not specific to any school district and its origin is unknown – there is some suspicion that it originates outside the country. Lewisboro PD and all police agencies are aware of this alleged threat. It has been deemed low level and/or not credible. Nonetheless, we have been in communication with LPD and they will have an increased presence at all our schools tomorrow.

I want to take this opportunity to share some additional information about the position of School Resource Officer in our district. KLSD has long had a single school resource officer posted at JJHS. That position has been part-time (and budgeted accordingly) for a number of years. There was no change in our school budget for the position for this current year. Our previous SRO retired from his position last June, after this year’s budget had been approved by the voters. KLSD and the Lewisboro Police Department have been working collaboratively since June to try to fill the position as it was filled in prior years.

The Lewisboro Police Department and the Town of Lewisboro know that KLSD would like to have an SRO in place at school as soon as possible, and that we will use all the available funds in our current budget to support that position. Lewisboro PD is working actively towards that end even as I write. We appreciate their support and collaboration.

Finally, in these trying times, I believe it is imperative that we do all we can to help alleviate the anxiety many children are experiencing. Social media is just one source of such anxiety. I share the following resources that are being shared in other districts, too, in the hope that they may be helpful to you:

Sincerely yours,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
