Dear KLSD Community,

Tomorrow, we look forward to welcoming all of our 3rd, 8th, and 12th graders to school, along with all other students who have been attending in the Cohort model throughout the year. When students arrive tomorrow, they can expect to see barriers on desks and distances of less than 6 feet.

You may be aware that late on Friday night, the NYS Department of Health issued new guidance to schools. That guidance tells us that the barriers required as of Friday are no longer required. It also tells us that in some cases less than 6 feet is now fine without a barrier, but in other cases 6 feet of distance is still important (regardless of a barrier’s presence). So, the new guidance eases our transition to full-time school in some ways and presents new challenges in other ways.

We began working through the implications of this new guidance this weekend and will continue in the coming days. It’s possible that some of our return to school plans may have to be revised in light of new requirements. We will, of course, keep you posted. You can expect to hear from us again before Thursday.

For now, however, we are eager to welcome more of our students tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
