Summer Update on Masks at School

Dear KLSD Community,

Late last week, we received updated guidance from the New York State Department of Health regarding the wearing of masks in school. Importantly, the State specified that this guidance is for the summer only. We hope to receive additional guidance for the fall.

Effective immediately for students:

• Mask wearing is encouraged but is optional both indoors and outdoors at school.
• Masks must continue to be worn by unvaccinated students on school buses.

Effectively immediately for staff:

• Mask wearing indoors (and on buses) is optional for fully vaccinated staff.
• Mask wearing indoors (and on buses) is required for unvaccinated staff.
• Masks are optional outdoors on school facilities for all staff.

As with any guidance from NYS, the above is subject to change. We will continue to keep you informed if/when we receive any additional guidance.
