Handbook: Support Services

While our schools are closed, we remain committed to supporting all students to the best of our ability. Please review the various support services below and contact your school principal should you need more information.

Special Education

Classroom teachers and special education teachers will continue to collaborate to support the needs of all students while we are closed.

Assignments will be modified as appropriate for students with special needs and service providers will be reaching out to the students on their caseloads.

Support services noted on a student’s IEP such as counseling, speech, and occupational therapy will also be provided remotely to support student goals to the extent possible while our schools are closed. Parents can expect a student’s service provider to reach out, and if you have questions, you should not hesitate to reach out to those providers. Their email addresses are available in the same locations as all faculty and staff, as noted above in the communication section.

Additionally, if you have broader questions, please reach out as follows:

Asst. Director for Special Services (Elementary) – Bridget Becker – bbecker@klschools.org

Asst. Director for Special Services (Secondary) – Jeffrey Cole – jcole@klschools.org

Director for Special Services (K – 12) – Catherine McNulty – cmcnulty@klschools.org

CSE Meetings

While we are closed, we are making every effort to continue to hold CSE meetings as they were previously scheduled, only now remotely. We are using the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Families can expect to receive invitations by email to participate in these meetings.

School Counselors and Other Providers

Our counselors in grades 6 – 12 will be checking in with their students. In addition, students and parents should not hesitate to reach out to counselors with any questions and/or social emotional needs that might be presenting at home. We will continue doing all we can to support your children to the best of our ability. Counselors will continue attending to course selections for next year, transition planning (including grade and building transitions as well as college planning), and supporting student and families remotely as needed. Counselor email addresses can be found in the same Faculty and Staff directories noted above in the communication section. Important note: If your family is experiencing a crisis or medical emergency, please use 911 services, as we cannot promise continuous monitoring of our email.

Other Service Providers

All other service providers (social workers, psychologists, therapists, etc.) will also be checking in with students and families and providing resources as appropriate. Their individual email addresses can be found in the same Faculty and Staff directories noted above in the communication section. Important note: If your family is experiencing a crisis or medical emergency, please use 911 services, as we cannot promise continuous monitoring of our email.

Nurses

Our school nurses will remain in contact with families regarding specific needs. Please email your school nurse if you have a particular question or need. Email addresses can be found in the same locations as all faculty and staff addresses as noted in the communication section above. Important note: If your family is experiencing a crisis or medical emergency, please use 911 services, as we cannot promise continuous monitoring of our email.
