Distance Learning Video & Update

March 20, 2020

Dear KLSD Community,

As we wrap up Day Three of our distance learning experience, we’re trying to share information in new and more easily accessible ways, and get to some of your questions.

Please follow this link to our updated website with a video I recorded earlier today.

In addition, information continues to evolve very quickly. Since I finished filming that video just a couple hours ago, NYS has officially cancelled all of the following tests for this year:

  • Grades 3-8 English Language Arts Tests
  • Grades 3-8 Mathematics Tests
  • Grade 4 Elementary-Level Science Test
  • Grade 8 Intermediate-Level Science Test
  • English as a Second Language Achievement Test in Grades K-12
  • New York State Alternate Assessment for students with severe cognitive disabilities in Grades 3-8 and high school

There is no word yet on NYS Regents Exams. We’ll keep you posted, of course.

Also, I did not address the question of Spring Break in the video. I’m confident, based on latest guidance, that our Spring Break will still be a break from school at the time it is currently scheduled.

Finally, with the weekend arriving, please consider turning off devices, both your own and your children’s. These days have been long and challenging. It’s important for everyone’s health to find time for rest and relaxation.

Be safe and be well.

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
