Charitable Donation Fund

July 17, 2018

Dear Katonah-Lewisboro Community,

As you may be aware, New York State has enacted legislative amendments authorizing school districts and local municipalities to establish “charitable funds” with the possibility of real property tax credits available to resident property owners who contribute to such funds. Over the past few months, we have been working with our legal counsel and with our representatives in Albany to explore the option offered by New York State. At this time, our Board of Education is not taking action to establish such a fund as we continue to await comprehensive guidance from the IRS or from the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance.

Our Board discussed this matter at its July 12 reorganization meeting [click here to view video of meeting].  Rest assured that we will continue to monitor developments with an eye toward the needs of our community members and what is best for our school district.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
