2019 Novel Coronavirus

February 6, 2020

Dear KLSD Community,

Last night, we received joint guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Education Department regarding the 2019 Novel Coronavirus.

The guidance contained the following statement:

At this time, there are no cases in New York State. The risk to residents and students is low. At this time of the year, there are many possible causes for respiratory illness. Therefore, there is no need to cancel school or social events, and there is no need for students or school staff to wear surgical masks at school.”

The bulk of the guidance was focused on students who may have traveled to China or who have family members who have traveled to China. We were advised that all students are to be permitted entry into school, and that we would be contacted by our local health department if any students are currently subject to a quarantine. At this time, there are no such students.

In addition, the departments provided this letter for parents.

Should we receive any additional information, we will share it with you.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
