Students arrived at Increase Miller, Katonah, and Meadow Pond Elementary Schools on Wednesday, September 5, for the first day of the school year.
School principals, assistant principals, and non-classroom teachers welcomed children outside the schools; making sure each child knew where to go.
Kindergarten teachers gathered their students outside and walked together to their classrooms.
Cubbies and bulletin boards welcomed the students by name. Neatly stacked books, instrument cases, and other school supplies stood ready and waiting .
Despite the heat and humidity, good cheer and smiles were everywhere!
Many kindergarten and first grade teachers read “First Day Jitters” to their students. Some classes took walking tours of the school, while other teachers took Day 1 photos so that children could look back at the end of the year and see how much they’d grown.
Second and third grade classes read stories, played games, and got to know each other.
Fourth and fifth grade students filled their classrooms with energy as they participated in team-building activities.
Curriculum Nights take place at each of the three elementary schools. These evenings are an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher as well as the school principal, assistant principal, and specialists, learn about the grade-level academic program, and receive general information about the classroom activities.
