Flag Day

honoring the Stars and Stripes

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America ... " While students say the Pledge of Allegiance each morning, saying it together at the kindergarten celebration of Flag Day was impactful, memorable and moving.

The students paraded out of the school wearing America's colors and stood with their teachers in front of Katonah Elementary School, facing the flagpole.

A representative from each class met Paul Black, the school's resource officer and a veteran, by the school's flagpole. They helped him unfurl and hoist the flag by hand until it reached the top of the flagpole.

A kindergarten tradition

"Thank you"

After saying the Pledge of Allegiance together, the students recited the patriotic poem "June Fourteenth." Mrs. Egan and Ms. McGrath's students followed with "The American Way" and Mrs. Carini students offered "Red, White and Blue."

"Thank you" many of the students said to Mr. Black as they walked back into school.
