Day-Before-Thanksgiving Day Parade!

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving at Katonah Elementary School without the Day-Before-Thanksgiving Day Parade!

While Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is impressive, Katonah Elementary School's Day-Before-Thanksgiving Day Parade has it beat in the categories of history, youth empowerment, and crowd enthusiasm!

Fifth graders chose their float topics from the popular Who Was / Who Is collection of biographies and worked in small groups to research, design, and create  life-sized figures, scenes or symbols. This year’s line-up featured over two-dozen entries, each one depicting a trailblazer such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, Sacagawea, and Sarah  Hale. A Nobel Prize represented Alfred Nobel, the inventor, and philanthropist. A chimpanzee honored Jane Goodall, the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees.

The parade supported reading and writing units as well as leadership, design, and public speaking skills. The fifth graders wrote and rehearsed introductions to each float which they enthusiastically delivered to the students and teachers watching the parade.
