Donuts with Me
A Celebration of family
Donuts with Me is one of several opportunities throughout the year for special people to visit the kindergarten and enjoy fun and games with their student.
This year, Kate Hernandez’ class created their own version of the book "If You Give a Dog a Donut.” Each student thought about the question “if you give my special person a donut” and wrote, drew, and recorded his or her answers! Their creative, one-of-a-kind book was showcased for all of the special visitors to enjoy.
The students wrote, drew, and recorded their ideas (sorry, sound not enabled)
Children’s learning and care was evident in every detail.
Donuts with Me began with a concert of songs about family. Not only did the students learn the lyrics, they also learned how to sign some of the words for their guests.
Students and their guests also played class-wide Bingo together using custom Bingo cards the students created which highlighted specific qualities of their special people. Words like hard worker, strong, calm, happy, and helpful were very popular. Adjectives like noisy, sleepy, funny, and playful also appeared on some cards!
"Our kindergarteners enjoy this time because they get to let their special person know 'we donut (don't) know what we'd do without you,'" said Ms. Hernandez.
