“Sofia means wisdom,” said one student. “One of the reasons that my parents picked my name is that it can be pronounced in both Spanish and English.”
“My parents heard a song called ‘Little Lilly’ from a band named Widespread Panic,” shared another student. Her mom said if she had a girl, she wanted to name her Lily.
Through beautiful little insights like these—the result of interviewing their parents about how their name was chosen and writing down the story—that Ann Marie Friscia’s third graders introduced themselves to each other.
“It was a great getting to know each other activity,” said Friscia.
