Sixth Grade Orientation

An exciting milestones in fifth graders’ Stepping Up process

On Friday, June 7, fifth graders from across the district arrived at the middle school by bus. They walked into the middle school’s big, beautiful, air-conditioned auditorium with their classmates and sat together as schools.

Mr. Swiatowicz, principal of John Jay Middle School, stood in front of the stage. Before he even welcomed the fifth graders, he gave them an opportunity to express one of the things that was on everyone's mind.

“Who’s here from Katonah Elementary?" Mr. Swiatowicz asked. Cheers from the right!

“OK, good. How about Meadow Pond Elementary?” Cheers from the middle!

"And, where’s Increase Miller Elementary?” Cheers from the left!

They were all here together!

A Welcome from Mr. Swiatowicz, principal of John Jay middle school

After a brief address by Mr. Swiatowicz and Assistant Principal Monica Bermiss, the students left in small groups for a guided tour of the school. They visited the English language arts, math, science, united arts, world languages, social studies, and music classes; met teachers in each classroom, gym, library, and lab; learned about the opportunities they will have next year; and had a chance to ask questions.

The students will return to the Middle School as sixth graders on August 28 for New Family Orientation.
