The American Association of University Women, Excellence in Writing Award
This award acknowledges the superior creative and formal writing skills of selected female seniors in the Westchester public high schools.

The American Association of University Women, Outstanding Student Award
This award is presented to an outstanding senior girl in each Westchester public high school who has demonstrated service to her school, academic ability, and potential for future service to women in the solution of social and civic problems.

The American Red Cross High School Scholarship Program
This award is presented to a school which holds two or more blood drives per school year. It recognizes and rewards the student who is responsible for organizing successful blood drives showing collection growth over the previous year. This student is responsible for coordinating and signing up donors and volunteers, motivating the donors and assisting throughout the day of the event. The blood collection directly helps to save lives and keep our blood supplies at safe levels.

Amy’s Kisses Foundation Memorial Scholarship
This award was created in memory of Cross River resident Amy Perez and her two children, Molly and Gregory, whose lives ended tragically in October 2011. A graduate of Cornell University and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Amy co-founded a successful college test preparation organization, serving John Jay High School students shortly before her untimely death. The Amy’s Kisses Foundation celebrates her generosity of spirit, her commitment to academic excellence, and her enduring legacy by enriching the lives and education of students. This scholarship is awarded to a college-bound senior who best exemplifies the dedication to education that Amy held so dear.

The Lindsay Bates Award
This Boosters Club award is named in honor of our former longtime Director of Guidance and is given to a male and female senior athlete who has consistently demonstrated a positive and supportive role on their team. These student athletes have set a standard of sportsmanship and character of the highest quality.

The George Collins Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of George Collins, a longtime resident of the community and a devoted modified football coach. This award is presented to seniors who have demonstrated the most improvement in four years of athletic participation.

Ronald Lyons Memorial Scholarship
Ron Lyons was a longtime resident of the school district who taught, coached, and was the Director of Physical Education and Athletics. This Booster Club scholarship recognizes outstanding achievement in the classroom and on the field, as well as citizenship and sportsmanship.

Lisa Talia Courage Award
This award is presented to the John Jay athlete who exemplifies a commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and courage that Lisa demonstrated with her long battle against cancer. The recipient is honored for fighting through adversity with professionalism, great inner strength, unwavering dedication to the cause and serving as a community role model and as a reminder to others to fight the fight and never give up.

Named in memory of our long-time Director of Athletics, this Booster Club award recognizes good citizenship and sportsmanship both on the field and in the community.

The John Jay Boosters Club Athletic Scholarship
This award recognizes one male and one female student-athlete who has exemplified in leadership, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and conscientious effort both on the field and within their community. These two students have played at least two varsity sports for a minimum of two years

The John Jay Boosters Club Scholar-Athlete Scholarship
This award recognizes a student-athlete who has an exceptional academic record and success in athletics. This student athlete has demonstrated exemplary leadership and sportsmanship both on and off the field that has earned the admiration of the faculty, coaches and peers. This recipient has made an impact in the community during their school career, along with playing four years of one sport and receiving one of the following awards during one season; All Section, All League, All County or All State.

The Dr. Nick Daniello Academic/Athletic Scholarship
Nick Daniello (Dr. Nick) was an active member of the Lewisboro community, a devoted husband and proud father of three JJHS student athletes. As president of the John Jay Booster Club, Dr. Nick dedicated countless hours of hard work – providing strong leadership, organizing and strategizing, encouraging, challenging, drumming up support, exhibiting humor and a relentless drive – personal attributes which he utilized in order to support and enhance the athletic opportunities of all student athletes. This scholarship has been established to recognize an exemplary John Jay student who not only excels in athletics, but has demonstrated excellence in academics and sets an example to others through committed volunteer efforts in our community.

Class of 1980 Scholarship
This award is presented to a senior who is the child of a JJHS graduate, and is enrolled in a full or part-time college program leading to a degree. As part of the selection process, each applicant wrote an essay demonstrating their involvement in volunteer service within the Katonah Lewisboro School District community. A committee, made up of members of the Class of 1980 selected the award recipient.

The Katherine A. Courreges Art Award
Miss Courreges taught in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District for 38 years inspiring students to develop their talents. Many of her students; architects, designers, artists, teachers; have gone on to enrich communities here and beyond. This award for creativity and dedication is administered by the Katonah Museum of Art.

The John Cunniffe John Jay Youth Lacrosse Scholar – Athlete Award
This scholarship is awarded to a male and female member of the John Jay Varsity Lacrosse teams who exemplifies John Cunniffe’s spirit of sportsmanship, dedication, hard work and love for the game on and off the field. Recipients have shown a passion for growing the game of lacrosse among the youth in the community, have demonstrated a strong work ethic as both students and athletes, are leaders among their peers, and consistently exhibit a positive attitude and strive to do their best in everything they do.

Antonio and Mary Felice Citizenship Award
In honor of his grandparents who cared so much for the community, Jim Felice has chosen to recognize a senior who has worked to his/her ability, has proven to be a good citizen, and has gone out of his/her way to help others.

Walter Alan Finlayson Music Award
Walter Alan Finlayson, a graduate of the old Katonah High School, was a life-long music teacher. Beginning his career at Katonah High School in the 1940’s, he transitioned to the new John Jay High School in the fall of 1956 and retired in 1974. Mr. Finlayson was passionate about music as well as life itself – mentoring many music students over the decades to achieve in the various fields of music. This scholarship, endowed by Mr. Finlayson’s daughter Gale in memory of her father, is presented to a student who plans to further his/her education in instrumental music.

Future Problem Solvers
The Future Problem Solving (FPS) Scholarship is awarded to a candidate who shows exceptional potential in problem solving and in higher level thinking skills, and great promise to use these skills in the future.

Judith Fast Memorial Art Scholarship Award
In memory of a cherished community member and talented artist, the Goldens Bridge Colony offers this scholarship to a promising art student with outstanding drawing skills, perseverance, and a willingness to share those talents.

Goldens Bridge Community Association - Social Justice Award
The founders of the Goldens Bridge Colony were dedicated to promoting human rights and helping those less fortunate. They believed strongly in working toward a world of fairness and social justice. In keeping with their values, and in order to honor them, the Goldens Bridge Community Association sponsors an award to a graduating senior at John Jay High School who has demonstrated a commitment to those values.

Goldens Bridge Fire Department –
Paul R. Daur Continued Education Grant
This award, sponsored by the Goldens Bridge Fire Department, is in memory of Paul R. Daur. Mr. Daur dedicated much of his life to the Goldens Bridge Fire Department, including 35 years as president. After his passing, money was gathered from family and friends to provide an award to Firemen or their children to continue their education after graduating high school. The following year, the Goldens Bridge Fire Department voted to continue the tradition in his honor, the year was 1998.

Henry T. Martin Memorial Scholarship
This award, sponsored by the Goldens Bridge Fire Department, is in memory of Henry Martin, a longtime member of the department and custodian/bus driver for Katonah-Lewisboro. The recipient resides in the Goldens Bridge fire district and participates in community service.

Charles T. Helmes Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Mr. Helmes, who served the Katonah-Lewisboro School District for more than thirty years, retiring as the Superintendent of Schools. Criteria for this award are citizenship and service to the Katonah-Lewisboro community.

Increase Miller Faculty and Staff Award
The Increase Miller faculty and staff awards this scholarship to a former Increase Miller student. The award is based on an essay the student has written that shows how Increase Miller Elementary School provided a foundation for his or her future goals.

Corporal James Jackowski Marine Memorial Scholarship
James, a 1981 graduate of John Jay, was suddenly killed in 1983 in the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The Westchester County Detachment of the Marine Corps League created a scholarship to honor a student who has worked to his/her ability, is a good citizen, and who will further his/her education in an engineering, technical, or trade school or college.

The John Jay Art Club Award
The winner of this award must be an outstanding role model for Studio Art students. They must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, encouraging, skillful and creative. In addition they must have shown strong leadership skills in the Art Club and be very involved in the club’s community service projects.

This award is presented to senior students in the community who are role model student-athletes and have contributed to the school, community and athletic programs. These students also have contributed extensively to the John Jay Futbol Club as a player, referee or volunteer.

This scholarship was established in memory of Linda Kandel, beloved and outstanding teacher of mathematics at John Jay Middle School. Linda’s creativity, enthusiasm and indomitable spirit inspired her students and her colleagues. This scholarship is given to a senior who has shown the most creativity and promise in the area of mathematics.

The Katonah Poetry Series is pleased to award a John Jay High School senior who is passionate about poetry and/or creative writing and has demonstrated outstanding accomplishment in the literary arts. Applicants submitted 5 pages of original work in order to be considered for this award.

Established in 1878, The Katonah Village Improvement Society is an organization whose purpose focuses on the improvement, beautification and cultural enrichment of Katonah. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has demonstrated an on-going commitment to community service in the Katonah area.

Katonah Village Library Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating John Jay High School student who has volunteered their time and talents to the Katonah Village Library. The Katonah Village Library staff selects a student who has demonstrated commitment to the library and the community over several years while a high school student.

This memorial scholarship was established by the family and friends of Sonia Lanman, a long-time teacher in John Jay’s music department, to recognize a student who has demonstrated a special interest and ability in the fine or performing arts.

Lewisboro Elementary School PTO Scholarship
The Lewisboro PTO was an active group at Lewisboro Elementary School that encouraged communication among parents, students and the school community. Lewisboro Lions' Robert J. Gallo Scholarship
The Lions Club offers this scholarship in memory of Lion Robert Gallo, a proud tradesman, (stonemason) artist and dedicated Lions Club member. The recipient is a resident of the Town of Lewisboro, shows a commitment to public service and is interested in working with his or her own hands as a craftsman or pursuing a career related to a trade.

The Lions Club created this scholarship in honor of Stephen Plevka, longtime principal of Meadow Pond Elementary School. This award is presented to a senior who has volunteered in the school and community.

This scholarship is given by the Westchester Oratorio Society in memory of Bob McDonald—beloved friend, founder, treasurer and “chief-of-staff” of the Society. The award is presented to a student who has demonstrated similar spirit in serving his or her community.

On behalf of the Meadow Pond faculty and staff, this award is presented to a Meadow Pond alumnus who has continued to exemplify school spirit throughout his/her school years.

Nancy Mongillo Scholarship
Nancy Mongillo was a beloved art teacher in both Katonah and Lewisboro Elementary School. This scholarship is offered to a graduating student who plans to major in the arts in college.

William Glenn Monti Scholarship
Bill was a 1985 graduate of John Jay High School who went on to Manhattan College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. At 28 he was stricken with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He succumbed to it at age 33. Bill leaves a legacy of bravery and strength. This scholarship is given to a person who expressed a desire to enter the medical profession or who has faced the challenges of a life-threatening disease.

Offered by the State Comptroller, this award honors a student who has shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership, through involvement in activities that improve their school and community.

New York Schools Insurance Reciprocal – The Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship
The Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the NY Schools Insurance Reciprocal, in honor of Cristin Ann Bambino, the daughter of Bob Bambino, NYSIR’s former Director of Risk Management. It is awarded to a college-bound student who has overcome their challenges, completed high school and obtained acceptance to a college or university. This year’s recipient was unanimously selected by the scholarship committee.

Ordinary Wishes
Ordinary Wishes was established in 2010 to help families in the Katonah-Lewisboro community. Partnered with the high school and the local community, this scholarship supports students and their families as a way of promoting good will. In keeping with this philosophical tradition, this scholarship recognizes college bound students whose experiences in high school demonstrates resiliency, strength of character and kindness towards others while looking to improve upon themselves and the greater good of the community.

Wilma C. Rogalin Leadership Scholarship
The Wilma C. Rogalin Leadership Scholarship was established in March 2012 by the Pound Ridge Women’s Republican Club (PRWRC) in memoriam of Wilma C. Rogalin, a former Club president who actively volunteered in Republican Party politics at the local, state, and federal levels. Mrs. Rogalin served on numerous boards and was a tireless volunteer in the Pound Ridge community where she held several leadership positions. A pioneer for women’s equality, this annual scholarship honors her legacy and is presented to a female student for her outstanding achievements in leadership, academics and community service.

Phillis Johnson Financial Assistance Award
In honor of Phillis Johnson, this scholarship is awarded by the Retired Teachers Association of Northern Westchester to honor a high school senior who has shown excellent academic achievement, exemplary personal qualities that show concern for others, and a firm commitment to become a teacher.

The Lucie Bigelow Rosen Music Scholarship
This scholarship, established in memory of Lucie Bigelow Rosen, the founder of Caramoor, recognizes a student’s musical achievements, intent to pursue a musical education, and appreciation of the aesthetic heritage and influence of music.

Valerie Saldutti Scholarship
This scholarship was established after the untimely death of Valerie Saldutti, a Katonah-Lewisboro resident, in February, 2011. She was the proud mother of Michael (Class of 2008), Stephen (Class of 2010), and Lauren (Class of 2016), and an avid supporter of John Jay athletics. The recipient of this award is an athlete who has shown to be an outstanding member of the community through citizenship, sportsmanship, or community service.

This award honors a student who has made a contribution to the community and who has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in law or a related field. Susan Simon is an attorney in Cross River and Town Justice for Lewisboro.

This award is presented to students who have been involved in community activities throughout his/her high school tenure. Volunteerism, extracurricular activities and a sincere concern for the community are criteria considered for this award.

Provi R. Svensson Memorial Award
Provi Svensson was a district teaching assistant, proud mother of Erik, Class of 2006 and Sylvia, class of 1992. This award, established in her memory, is given to a senior who has demonstrated great spirit, determination, courage, and kindness. It is given to a students who are “everyone’s friend” by contributing positively to the school and to the community.

The Arthur and Dorothy B. Talmadge Memorial Scholarship
The Arthur and Dorothy Talmadge Memorial Scholarship is given to the individual who epitomizes the John Jay student who consistently works hard, behaves responsibly and makes a positive and valuable contribution to our school and community. Through continued perseverance and a caring commitment, this student enriches the lives of others.

Triple “C” Awards – The State of New York Office of the Attorney General
The office of the Attorney General for the State of New York, presents this award to honor students that have shown a tremendous dedication to learning, to their family, to their community, and to their classmates. The Triple “C” Award, recognizes the “Character, Courage and Commitment” of these hard working students.

The Dr. George Soze Vilakati Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given by a 1996 graduate of John Jay High School in memory of his UCLA Zulu professor, who died suddenly in 2000. The scholarship is given to a John Jay senior who wants to do something special in his/her life. The recipient is an independent thinker, has good academic standing, and is a giver to their community. The most important goal of the recipient is that he/she wants to make a difference in the world.

Vietnam Veterans of America
The Vietnam Veterans of America - Westchester County Chapter 49 annually award scholarships to assist students with a college/university or technical/vocational school education. This year’s award in memory of Vietnam Veteran Anthony Shine recognizes a senior from Westchester County, who as the child or grandchild of a veteran who served on active duty in any branch of the military during any war or peacetime demonstrates academic achievement, participates in extracurricular activities and understands the meaning of “service to our Country.”

The Alison Weingarten Memorial Fund
This scholarship is in memory of Alison Weingarten who died after a four month battle with Leukemia at the age of 20. Alison was a quiet yet strong young woman who was an elite athlete, strong student, and admired by her peers. She was studying nutrition in college. The person who is awarded this scholarship is a person who loves life and who cares about his/her community, and understands the importance to giving back to others.

The David Wheeler Memorial Scholarship
David Wheeler, a dedicated Lewisboro resident, perished when US Air flight 457 went down in 1994. David's life exemplified a kind and loving spirit extended to all. His passions included; art, architecture, and caring for each person to follow their own individual path. It is in this spirit that the David Wheeler Memorial Scholarship was created.

Dona Whyte Memorial Scholarship
Dona was a well known athlete and classmate who was respected and liked by all. She would have graduated with the Class of 1987. A scholarship was established in her name to honor female soccer players who are positive, hardworking, and team-oriented.

The Women’s Civic Club of Katonah
One of the objectives of the Women’s Club, established in 1916, was to secure the “Right to Vote” for women in this country. The Memorial House, dedicated to World War I veterans, was built by the Women’s Club in 1923. The Club has operated a thrift shop for over 70 years, and the proceeds derived from this endeavor, plus the revenue realized from the annual Beaux Arts Exhibit, enable the Club to offer a number of scholarships to students of John Jay who have demonstrated exemplary community service and a high standard of academic achievement.

Zonta Club of Westchester - Young Women in Public Affairs Award
The Zonta Club of Westchester, a member of Zonta International, a worldwide organization in 67 countries is devoted to the empowerment of women through service and advocacy. Their work centers on eliminating violence against women, gender equality, improving access for girls and women to education, health, economic security. The Zonta Club of Westchester honors a female graduate with the “Young Women in Public Affairs Award.”
