National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists!

"A testament to high personal standards, commitment and perseverance."

John Jay High School is extremely pleased and proud to announce that Liliana Carey and Jonathan Frantz are National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists for 2021.

“Their accomplishments are a testament to the high personal standards they have set for themselves and the commitment and perseverance necessary to achieve this level of distinction,” said Principal Steven Siciliano. “We also congratulate their families and their teachers as all student-success is nurtured through these critical relationships.

Dr. Siciliano highlighted that the accomplishment is all the more impressive as students negotiate uncertain and surreal times in their young lives. "We wish both Jonathan and Liliana continued success in this process."

Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
