Class of 2021 Commencement

A Venue to accomodate all graduates and their guests

John Jay graduates and their guests will celebrate the Class of 2021 at a venue that combines the excitement of a jumbotron with natural beauty. The Commencement Team is proud to announce that the Class of 2021 graduation will be Monday, June 21, at noon, at Palisades Credit Union Park in Pomona, New York.

“We are looking forward to a wonderful commencement for the Class of 2021,” said Principal Steven Siciliano. “We are excited that our seniors—who have had the most challenging last year of high school on record—will graduate at a first-class facility that meets every request on their wish list, and then some.”

Palisades Credit Union Park is an 8,000-seat stadium with a 360-degree concourse and jumbotron. It is situated atop a ridge over-looking the majestic Ramapo Mountains. The multi-purpose venue—called America’s Best New Ballpark when it opened in 2010—is the home field of the New York Boulders, an independent professional baseball team.

Earlier this year, senior class presidents circulated a survey to the Class of 2021, asking them what was important to them for commencement. The results were clear: seniors wanted a graduation ceremony with all of their classmates and as many family members as could safely attend, even if it meant traveling to an unfamiliar site.

The Commencement Team, made up of seniors Kaitlyn Machado, Joelle Sacks and Scott Weinstein; senior parents Anne-Marie Gerard Galler, Eileen Lynch and Josephine Ziegler; Assistant Principal Kim Piccolino and Principal Steven Siciliano; and senior class advisors Tom Rizzotti, Steve Zoeller and Carlyn Bochicchio, got to work.

“We considered drive-in movie theaters, a mall parking lot and corporate parks,” said Galler. “When we discovered Palisades Credit Union Park, we knew it was a home run.”
