Behind the Scenes of Homecoming 2021

the Excitement builds

John Jay’s athletes are talking strategy and practicing plays. Students are coming to classes dressed as American flags, in western wear and in the school colors of purple, gold and white. Members of Dance Team and Pep Band are rehearsing pieces to pump up the the fans.

Homecoming, on Saturday, September 25, is coming up fast and excitement is building for the day that brings the whole community together. “It feels great to be celebrating Homecoming again,” said Assistant Principal Vinnie Bell. “It’s coming up quick—it’s only eleven days after the first day of school!”

Homecoming also involves younger students as well as parents.

Youth football will be on the field to form a tunnel for the football team to run through.

John Jay Boosters will be selling food and fun Wolves merchandise all day at the snack shack, until the senior class takes over that evening.

The high school's PTO will be hosting a Pumpkin Candy Guessing Game to raise funds for student activities.

While much about Homecoming is set by tradition, certain aspects are shaped by John Jay’s class officers. The students met the first day of school. Their tasks include picking the themes for Spirit Week and the class floats.

Senior Class Co-President Nina Calves is excited about the movie franchise theme for the class floats: Disney, Marvel, Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean. “Each grade has a great theme,” she said.

The parade of class floats takes place at halftime, along with a new routine by John Jay’s Dance Team. #Go Wolves!
