Athletics Update

“It’s going to be challenging and it’s going to be fluid,” said Chris McCarthy, Katonah-Lewisboro School District’s director of health, athletics, physical education and wellness, on July 22 about the fall 2020 sports season. As per NYSPHSAA Covid-19 guidelines, the tentative start date for fall sports is September 21, 2020.

“The number one priority across the state is to open up schools safely first,” continued McCarthy. "I lead the Alignment Committee for Section 1 – who plays who. We’re working as a group to create a localized schedule. We want to limit our footprint and maximize our ability to do contact tracing, if need be."

Like all high schools in the area, John Jay doesn’t know if all levels will be offered and how abbreviated the schedule will be.  “It’s too soon to tell,” said McCarthy.

Registration for athletic participation at all levels is not taking place at this time.  As soon as the NYSPHSAA and Governor's Office confirm the official start date, John Jay High School’s athletic department  will reach out to our community with registration information.
