Seniors Help Kick-off PARP with Book-Based Performances

Seniors in John Jay High School’s Advanced Acting class helped kick-off Pick-a-Reading-Partner (PARP) at Increase Miller Elementary School, Katonah Elementary School, and Meadow Pond Elementary School with book-based performances.

“They enjoy the experience at least as much as the elementary-school audiences,” said Bill Friedman, high school drama teacher.

The performances were the culmination of a class project. The students each chose a favorite children's book, created a script from it, and then worked together to produce an entertaining series of one-acts for elementary school children.

This year, the students chose the books Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, We Are in a Book (An Elephant and Piggy Book), He Came with the Couch, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, and Poppleton, from which they selected one story called The Pill.

This year's group consists of Isaiah Blum, Barrett Middleton (not shown), Carly Post, Ellie Prusko, Gary Sowder, and Nick Spink.
